So i decided that to warm myself up for writing my history essay I would start with my blog. Luckily for you that means you get filled in for my past week. I forgot one part of last week that was really interesting and that was German movie night. Our German prof decided that one a week on a Tuesday or Monday we would watch a German movie in Bader all together. Last Tuesday four of us plus the Prof, plus the French prof all watched Run Lola Run in C1 (the gathering/movie room in the residence). It was really interesting, I really enjoyed it. I wish I could pull off her hair, its all bright and colourful and full and stuff and I likes it. Geez, pardon the language, I seem to be having linguistic issues today. Anywho what was the best part was when someone got hit by a truck and it was the classic person getting hit by a truck scenario and I did the only natural thing that come to me when I see such things on television, I laughed hysterically. Of course Katie understood and already knew about this sick reaction of mine but everyone was simply perplexed until I explained that many movies have this classic and are always built up in similar ways. You arent supposed to suspect a thing, though movie buffs like me can spot it from a mile ahead which only makes us laugh all the more when it actually happens. Everything is wonderful then boosh, out of nowhere a big ass truck or in the case of Run Lola Run a big ass ambulance, comes and yeah I think you get the picture. I was going to go more detaily but that might be taking it a bit far. Hee.
Anywho, I had an interesting chat with my German prof after that and also with the French prof and Katie. The four of us sat there for an extra half hour just chatting. Nice night. Last Thursday night six of us went to Kari and Jacinta's room to watch the Shining (pls tell me the spelling is right, I sat here for 5 minutes debating the fact). We turned the beds to make one big couch and put the laptop on a chair to be our movie screen. OMG I have not seen that movie in sooo long! I definately yelped a little and jumped. I am afraid to say I scared the others in some parts when I prematurely jumped for almost no reason. I am fairly easily spooked so I can be fun to watch scary movies with. It was fun. I also rented (borrowed from the library) a poo load of movies because my roomie wasnt here this week so I was gobbling up only child time in my room. I rented this kids movie that I always wanted to see when I was younger but never got to and since it was here I thought I would give it a try. It put me into a good mood. I also watch Empire of the Sun with BABY CHRISTIAN BALE!!! If you see my flickr you already know this, but seriously it was so exciting. He is like 13 yrs old and Steven Speilburg is director so you know its good!
I will get onto the rest of my weekend. On Saturday I woke up early to go to Oxford. The whole school pretty much was going even if they didnt have a feild study, because they had to and they probs wanted to visit Blackwells, the huge ass (I am loving that word today) bookstore in Oxford. I was in the English class who's tour of Oxford wasnt until the afternoon and I was pretty much one of the only ones so I spent the morning by myself, which is honestly fine by me. I was feeling the me time. I first went into Blackwells and almost died. It has four floors and is beautiful. I mean I know we have Chapters and Indego, but I feel like this had more genres to choose from and its British! So I lingered in ther for over an hour and then decided I really wanted to see the Botanical Gardens even though the flowers wouldnt all be up yet I figured it would be nice. I love Oxford, it is so old and just the walk down was nice. You have to pay to get into the Gardens but its not expensive and it is beautiful. It has all the plants labelled so you can tell where they are from and stuff and it has the plant houses so you can go inside and look at blooming flowers. There were also trees and fountains and ponds and a river and rocks and benches and some bloomage. There was JRR Tolkeins favourite tree which was cool. It was very pretty and very big. For me my excitement was to see Will and Lyra's bench. If any of you read the Philip Pullman books you will appreciate this, if you dont you will have no idea what I am talking about. Anywho it is their meeting bench if you can remember and it is so cute and someone had scratched Will and Lyra forever on it, so cute! It over looks one of the ponds and if you look at my daily photo thing on flickr there is a picture of me sitting on it on day 22 I beleive.
The next step was taking the tour of Oxford. It was very literary based. So we were taken around to most of the colleges of Oxford U and told who went there and also taken to a few of the houses and libraries and told who lived there or worked there. My favourite was Percy Shelley who I will forever love now. First of all he saved me in English class from John Keats. I mean beautiful poetry that would be lovely to read allowed, but it was soo depressing and at the end of that class we looked at one poem by Shelley and it made me happy again because it was all about nature and wind and stuff. Loved. Secondly I learned that Shelley didnt much like Oxford U. He used to get them into trouble by running accross the street to outside the shops and switch the babies in the perambulators. Mothers would leave them outside the shops (which is what they should do now adays - damn mamas with their huge ass strollers knocking the clothes off the hangers and shelves and NOT picking them up again and then expecting us to help them fit into the changerooms and make the store wide enough for them and that everyone else should move and watch out for them because they are obviously more important even though their babies are going to grow up to be wimpy bips who do the same thing with their own children and just end up making me an old maid who chases kids off her lawn with a shotgun). ahem, so where was I? Oh yeah, Shelly. Anywho he would switch the babies around while the mamas were in the shops and then the mamas would complain to the school about him. I personally think it is hilarious and a perfect fit. He also sent a pamphlet about how atheism is good or something to that effect to all the heads of the university and was subsequently kicked out. If i have that story wrong at all I apologize, but it is the general idea. So I have a love for Shelley now.
So the tour produced lots o pictures and stories and afterward I went with Elizabeth to the Natural Science museum and saw Einsteins only leftover chalk drawings. After that was time to meet up with the gang for the three hour bus ride home on which the movie Talladega Nights was to be played. I only watched certain scenes because I was listening to music, but interesting. Its a Will Farrel movie so I didnt get my hopes up too much. That was that for the weekend basically. Ooo actually not really. On Sunday four of us were supposed to take a mini-bus (free ride provided by the school on their own schedual that is posted per week and you are supposed to sign up for certain rides) to Brighton. The bus was also to stop at the library. When we got on we were basically kicked off and told that library students get priority even though most of them hadnt signed up for the bus and had just shown up hoping for a seat (we had signed up a week in advance). I was really angry because we should at least have been warned this would happen and e-mailed one of the head people incharge of these things to tell him what happened and stuff. I must say it was a really good e-mail and was pleasantly surprised on Monday morning by a huge notice in the foyer of the caslte basically in full response to my e-mail. I was soo surprised that he actually did something about it and so fast! I checked my e-mail later and found a message from him explaining stuff and saying they are still trying to perfect the system. I was just greatful they did anything at all!
That brings us to today. I went to the Sussex library again which is a good hour mini-bus ride. It was night time too and I sat in the front passenger seat so I didnt get car sick and it was just really nice looking out he window and listening to the radio. I really enjoyed it. Now I should do something about that essay. Mmm, until next time, adieu (if thats how you spell it, hee).

January London Weekend cont'd
So I have been hiding in my room all week. So sorry I havent gotten this up sooner. So did I get my waffles? Yeps I did. We went back to Leicester Square where I had seen a pancake house and some other people got pancakes (crepes) and I gots me some waffles! Good ol' traditional waffles and syrup. I was in heaven! Had been craving those for soo long! We all chatted for abit and then tried to decide where we wanted to go/what we wanted to do. We wandered around for about an hour or so looking for a pub we could just stop into and get a casual drink before going back to the hostel to hang out. We could not find one anywhere that wasnt squeeze packed full. So we headed over to a Sainsbury's and gots us some booze! Sorry, I think I am slowly being driven insane by this high pitched noice that is engulfing the computer lab. Other people can hear it too, so I know I am not the only one!
Anywho we then proceeded to a pizza hut so Kurtis could get something to eat (he didnt feel like having pancakes). We chatted, it started to rain and we got the tube back to the hostel. I had picked up Grouse Whiskey or something to that effect and it ended up being really nice. We gathered in our hostel room of which non of the other residence were in at the time and tried to decide on a game to play. We eventually decided on I never. Basically, if you dont know the game, its where one person says something they have never done and anyone who has done that thing has to drink and if they feel like it they can share the story or a story or we can talk about it or whatever. The goal is to get everyone else drunk before you or at last finish their drinks. These games usually end up getting really sexual question minded, but this time it wasnt so bad. We actually ended up after a while getting into really deep discussions about stuff. We laughed a lot too and learned new things about eachother. It was fun. Eventually one person from outside the group came back to the room and decided they wanted to sleep so we moved the talk outside the room, but very soon we all decided we wanted to go to bed.
Libby woke up feeling kinda funky. I can honestly say I think I was still drunk when I woke up and lucky me I got to ride on the tube for 30 minutes to get to the Portrait Gallery. It was not the most fun ride, but when we got to the gallery everyone split up and I decided to go accross the street to a Pret Manger and get some breakfast. It made me feel soo much better, but I was not really in the mood to take pictures, or at least I didnt have the energy to pull out my camera. Hee, silly Libby. I met Amanda back at the Gallery and we took a look around while Katie and Kari went through the Annie Lebovitz exhibit (I had already seen it in December). Our next stop was the Tate Modern Museum. We had a nice walk there, got to see more of the city than if we took the tube. At one point there was a huge puddle that loads of people were trying to side step but there was only room for one person at a time. After we had managed to get to the other side we looked back to see the people behind us trying to cross while a little boy splashed his way through completely destroying their purpose of cramming throught the side part. What a good little boy!
We also saw some people on the beach below us on Thames doing weird tricks with fire battons and fire whips and stuff. It was really interesting. At one point a bunch of their friends came over and threw these huge branches over the side almost on top of them. Dont know what they were for cause we gots ourselves outa there. Anywho the Tate Modern was interesting. Except the random ones that were just paint with stripes or blobs or whatever. I mean why? The lines werent even clean, it was pretty sloppy. Bothers me that people can become famous for this in an artistic sense. I mean if it is for Interior design thats cool, but for an art exhibit? Our next stop was Victoria Station to get a train back to Polegate where we would catch a mini-bus back to the Castle. The ride back was uneventful as most people slept or read or listened to music. When we got to Polegate we realised that we had an hour to wait for the mini-bus. So we went to the liquer stre. They had a deal on for ales so I gots four different kinds to try for next time I drink. One is Spitfire, to honour the Battle of Britain, another is Fursty Farrets, which I am sooo excited to try, another is hobgobblins or something and the last is this fruitsy one that the girl working there recommended to me. We then spent the next half hour in a convenience store reading the magazines and remenissing over the candy and what we used to like when we were little.
Eventually our Mini-bus got there and we were back intime for supper! FOOFOO. It was so disappointing. We were really excited for a real meal, not a store bought one or whatever and we were so disappointed, I dont remember what there was but I do know I only had salad that night and a bun. Boo. Nothing too interesting happened that week I dont think until the Thursday, which will ahve to wait for next time as this blogis already too long and I promised I would shorten these down. Until enxt time!

January London Weekend
So I have pics up of my last weekend on facebook if anyone is interested. I will start at the beginning though which would be last Friday morning bright and early. We had to be on the bus around 8am and luckily I got a seat near the front with Kari and Katie and Amanda. The bus ride wasnt that eventful to be honest. I slept and listened to music. When we got there a bunch of people had their feild study at the National gallery for art history. As my lecture/tour thing wasnt until 1:15pm I went with Katie and Amanda to the Dahli Exhibit. It was really interesting because they also had throughout the exhibit fashion peices inspired by dahli. We meandered through there and another exhibit and then made our way (walking) to the National Gallery. We were taking photos like mad all the way there. Lots o fun.
Once at Trafalger Square we took more pictures and admired the frightening amount of pigeons flying insanely around. I know this is something everyone says about the square, that they have lots of crazy pigeons, but to be honest this was the first time I have seen such a large number there. I seperated from Katie and Amanda to meet my Prof and my class for the guide/lecture of all the peices there that we are studying this semester in art history. I love my prof, she is so enthusiasticand I find I am enjoying this semester much mor ethan last. I guess I like newer stuff, or maybe the stories that go with them.
Afterward I wandered around and searched for the theatre that Les Miserables was in as I wanted to know where it was for later. I strangely enough ran into another girl from the ISC who had just been at the American Embassy. Weird, I guess we are just all over the place! We chatted for a bit and I explored a little of that area. For those who know London it was the West end area, more specifically around Leicester. I still had another hour before I had to meet people for the evening, so I went to my trusty internet cafe. I love that place and I especially like that I found it on my own. I looked up Vincent Van Goh, because the prof had mentioned the whole thing about him cutting off his ear, but hadnt explained why, so I wanted to look it up, which of course sent me on other searches until I realised I was done. Oh and he cut off his ear because he was following around...mmmm... cant remember the artists name, starts with a G. Anywho, he was following this artist around and getting all upset because they disagreed on something about art so he cut off his ear and gave it to a prostitute and told her to keep it safe for him. Lovely eh?
I met up with Katie, Kari, Kurtis and Amanda. Amanda left to stay with her aunt and the four rest of us went to Leicester square to eat and wait for our play to start. Kurtis wasnt seeing Les Miserables so we checked out movie times and it turned out there was the new James Bond movie coming out at around the same time as our play would let out! Strangely while we were eating I got into a laughing fit because ... well dunno why, but I think it was a foreshaddowing to the rest of the weekend. In other words uncontrollable crying and laughter (good crying, dont worry). We made it to the theatre and it turned out we were at the very top in the nose bleeds, but we were still able to see pretty much everything! I paid a pound for the rentable binoculars, but ended up not really needing them. It was an excelently designed theatre! OMG, Les Miserables was amazing, I cried at so many songs, but usually made myself stop because otherwise I wouldnt have been able to see through my tears! Everyone was fabulous. Kari and Katie and I all loved it and could stop talking about it all the way back to the square (to get Kurtis). Once we got him and were walking to the tube station Kari somehow got Katie and me to start crying again, all the way accross Trafalger Square and into the tube station. It was crazy. Its been one of my dreams to see Les Mis on the West End and I cant beleive I have actually seen it! Wow. The subway to our hostel (which was the same one Karicia and I stayed in in December) was full of laugh crying. We made it safely to the hostel and into bed with no problems.
The next day (Saturday) Kurtis and Kari woke up early to go to their Human Geography feild study, so Katie and I slept in a little. We made it out eventually and got invited by "Australian guy" to hang out with them that night in the hostel. We said maybe and made our way down to the Imperial War museum. This is when I started craving waffles, actually no, thats a lie, I was craving them the night before, but all the same the point is I wanted waffles. The museum was interesting. I have been there before so I knew everything pretty well. We saw the holocaust exhibit again. Very intense, so we decided to walk up to the British Museum and take the scenic route through random (but safe), again getting some wonderful pictures.
The British Museum was really intersting. If you look on facebook there is a picture of me with a giant arm, which I mistook for a giant penis. "Hey look Katie, its a giant penis!" "No Libby, that would be an arm" "oh". Or somewhat to that extent. We gots to see mummys and statues and cool stuff like that, yeah. Our next stop after that I beleive was to go to Liecester Square again (can you tell I love this place), to see if I could get Oliver tickets for cheaply. Unfortunately there were non to be had so we walked over to the London Eye to get people before having supper. We greated Kari, Kurtis, Amanda, Heather and her friend Mustaffa. It turns out he is being trained in the Royal Air force, so I got to ask him lots of questions about that and chat with him.
So did I get my waffles? I am afraid you will have to wait and see. So tune in for the next instalment to find out, did Libby get her waffles? What did they decide to do on a Saturday night in London? and why are there no pictures of or from Libby on the Sunday? You'll find out soon!

Onto the second Week
So wow, it has already been almost two weeks! That feels crazy to me, especially because there feels like there is so much more work this semester. And travelling. There is so much more individual travelling, apposed to last semester where most of the travelling was with the school. We have a lot of free weekends that in regular university would be lapped up as work time. But in ISC mode free weekends mean more places to see. So far on the definate is London next weekend and Dublin at the end of the month, Paris and Brussels with the school, Berlin with the German class and Malta with a bunch of people in March. BATHING SUIT WILL BE USED!!! Yes swimming is available on the 25 degree heat island with lots of beach to run around in. Dublin should be crazy, London even this weekend should be crazy. Whats even crazier is how I am going to write my history paper in between this all. It'll work out, I have part of this weekend and almost all of the weekend after!
Okay so story time, a couple of days ago I walked into my room. Now this sounds normal but what happened this one time I entered my room is I saw my roomie keeping the door open with one foot and with her hands, wiping something on my bed. Turns out she had accidentally spilled a plate of curry on the end of my bed. Now not her fault, she probs tripped on my shoes or spilled it as she was opening the door, but still, a freak accident that would happen to me. Turns out it only got on the duvet and in a couple of my shoes and somehoe on the wall. She had already managed to get it off the walls and was going to run and soak the duvet in the laundry room sink, so I cleaned out my shoes. My only outcry on this occurence is that when I went to ask reception about getting a duvet they said I would have to wait for housekeeping who werent coming in until the next day. Reception was very nice about it, but still you would think they would have some sort of rule or emergency duvet or something, I dunno. Anywho I got Angie's origional duvet for the night because she has two (she bought herself one). The next day I had class so I had no opportunity to go to housekeeping. But apparently they stopped by the room and dumped a duvet cover on my bed and said here you go while Angie was still in bed, leaving before she had an opportunity to tell them I needed the duvet part too. So that is the challenge for today as I would rather not use the same duvet unless it had been actually washed. Apparently the smell is out, but I dont think it will be really out until it is washed. Gah, housekeeping can be really impatient, I mean I sure they are nice people, but they get really offended and impatient really easily. There are a couple that dont, that are really nice, but most of the ones I encounter are. Alas the day I will receive my OWN duvet. Hee, silly thing, but I really do want my own duvet.
The other day when I was uploading my daily picture up here in the computer lab I heard a saxaphone (I think thats what it is called) being played somewhere outside, but could not figure out where it was coming from. Eventually the other girl in here looked outside and saw that it was one of our students walking outside in the parking lot of Bader playing the sax, and very well I should add. It seemed very random, but a good kind of random. I love it things surprise you like that, just a little something extra to make you look and around and say "cool".
I go to London starting Friday to Sunday, so lets hope I have a few fun adventures. Oh and I finally get to see Les Miserables!

Classes Week
So I have unpacked and am now all snugged in and organised. I really do like being organised, not perfectly everything in perfect order, just things placed where I need them and where I can find them. Not too eventful of a week really. This semester I am taking the second half of English and History. I am taking the second half of German and Art History too, though I think I am going to enjoy Art History immensely more as it is work from 1700 to present. All mostly stuff I tend to care more about. Then I have also taken up Moral Issues, which is basically talking about moral issues. I might not go the week they talk about abortion depending on how I inturpret the classes debating techniques. I have had enough screem crying arguments about abortion to last me a life time and I am not going to put myself into a position where I am going to have to face that again. I can understand other peoples points of views and I wont get angry at you for having a different opinion. Its all in how you express that opinion and how open or closed minded you are to other peoples opinions. And I find especially with abortion people can beb especially rude and closed minded.
Sorry about the rant. Anywho I am also thinking of sitting in on Human Geography for the semester depending on how much time I have. It looks really interesting but more work than I can handle this semester especially since this is the semester of travel. I am already planning a trip to Dublin, Berlin and Malta with friends. We are also thinking of Norway (Katie speaks Norwegan!), Amsterdam and/or Dusseldorf Germany. Also a London weekend in a coule weeks. The others are really good at finding inexpensive flights and hostels so the only overboard trip is going to be Berlin, but thats because its organised by the school.
I thought I should also let you know that I am now doing this project where I take a picture of myself a day and put it on Flickr. There is also usually a blurb about my day and the picture there too. These pictures will be as creative as I can handle with the little equipment I have as well as showing around the place I live in and expressing how I feel or what I am doing that day. Here is the link if you are intersted: http://www.flickr.com/photos/libbyaskin/
I hope you enjoy and I hope to have actual stories for you soon!

Back at Bader
Hello, its been some time hasnt it? Well The flight home was relatively uneventful. I got window seat next to two middle aged women who didnt know eachother but that chatted the entire ride. I didnt mind as I watched movies the whole time. There was a screeming 3 month old baby behind me. It seriously sounded like someone was trying to kill it it was screeming so violently. What a freak. Anywho there was turbulance over Ottawa which the pilot couldnt help but comment over which made me laugh. I landed fairly safely and managed to make it home in one piece. If its ok I am going to skip writing about my break mostly for the fact that it was three weeks long and I think I would be here all day and you readers would kill me for length. I will sum up; it was a really nice and relaxing break, very Christmassy and snowy and I got exactly what I wanted for Christmas (NEW LENS!!!).
So the flight back here was also fairly uneventful. I sat beside Angie again (my roomie) only this time she had th ewindow seat and I had the middle seat with another student (Gina) on the aisle. We had some nice chats for a bit but eventually just sat back and relaxed watching movies or reading or whatever. The other two fell asleep, but I only really got a little nap in, for some reason I couldnt sleep. The take off was delayed by an hour and a half. They had to spray the wings to defrost them or something and then one of the runways was closed so there was only one left for multiple airplanes, so we had to wait our turn. I didnt mind too much to be honest. We landed 10:40am British time. I got lucky when my bags were amoung the first to come out and right next to eachother! I joined th egroup outside and met up with some friends. From there we loaded the coach with our bags, then ourselves. I slept/napped most of the 2 hour drive to the castle. We had to get keycards and then take our bags to our rooms. I just dropped my stuff and went on the computer for a sec then headed down to lunch with Katie. We met up with a few people then headed back to our rooms. Later on I greated Kari and Jacinta in their room.
My end of the night consisted of unpacking and organising my stuff. It took me a while to figure out where I wanted stuff. There are still some little things I have yet to organize, but that will be for this afternoon, then I will actually have a clean room. Actually my room was fairly clean last semester, but this semester you see I have a laundry bin, so I will have somewhere to keep my clothes when they are dirty, YAY! I had a very weird sleep. I went to bed aroun 10pm and woke up at 11pm, but I was really confused because there was a lot of noise in the halls and I had dreamed like it had been a good few hours of sleep and I felt fairly awake. Weird, but I went back to bed and didnt wake up until 9 this morning.
I hope you all had very nice holidays and enjoy my new year of blogging.
